You can ignore this if you want to but you all know that there is a serious problem with police officers shooting dogs.  I know it is not all police officers and there are plenty of cases of cops helping animals.  And i also know it is not only police officers that do this but this petition is directed at our law enforcement who are commiting these crimes.  It's unreal how often it is in the media and IT NEEDS TO STOP NOW.  I have a serious problem that the people who are here to serve and protect me cannot even protect themselves from a dog without shooting it to death.  I understand having to use physical force on an aggressive dog, but there are many other ways to go about it without even thinking of using a gun and law enforcement needs to be given proper training for these cases.  I think they should be trained by professionals to learn types of animal behavior so they can get a better read on the animal.  But cops carry pepper spray, and tazers, and they have hands that can control an animal.  Why does the policy seem to be "shoot first and dont answer questions later"?  Justice is not being served for these murders and a majority of the cases show that the animal was not aggressive.  If these police officers are too afraid of a dog then again, I have a serious problem with that person protecting me and my children and being looked up to as a hero in this country.  You are failing this country, this world, and you are failing humanity. 

The simple solution would be to arm each officer with a dog treat.  It's amazing how much a dog will respect you and worship you for a little food.  But i understand too many of the cops would eat the dog treat and go right back to using their gun.

I ask that there be a nation wide ban on shooting first and every cop should be armed with a tranquilizer.  I do not think that is too hard to ask.  There is to be no exception to this law for any specific dog breed, including the pitbull which is actually the sweetest breed of dog ever.  All other methods aside from murdering a beloved pet should be used before ever reaching for a gun.  I also think all cops should be equipped with a camera on thier chest but I know that will never happen; they would discover too much corrupt activity.  There also needs to be some justice in these cases.  These officers are getting away with murder and nobody is paying for the life they just took.  Why is a four legged family member any different than me?  If a cop ever points his gun at my dog, then I am going to be the one that charges, and he'd better shoot me.  Stop this before the people have to because it is out of control.  And I hope to not hear the response of "it would cost too much to arm each officer with a tranquilizer."  Don't make me remind you what this country spends it's money on.   Make a change to your policy now.     

Officers should be held accountable and this should be considered a crime that is actually punishable by law.  Taking a badge away is not enough but even that would be a start.  South Carolina man Maurice McCreary (not a cop) was sentenced to prison for 35 years for 5 counts of attempted murder and the killing of a police dog.  The killing of Fargo, the police dog counted for 5 years of his prison sentence.  Need i say more?

Here is clear evidence of lack of training, and i am trying to figure out why this officer intentionally set up the camera to watch this event unfold.  Was animal control called at all during this 6 minute event that ultimatly ends in a cop getting too frustrated, and putting a bullet into a dogs head as it was pinned down to the ground.

This law should be called "Mans best friend" and I hope to see it in place ASAP!
