It all started back in my old days in 5th grade. I realized there was something wrong with my computer--- At first, I thought it was a virus, but then realized it was a lot worse than that. It was a program "dedicated to keeping students safe." This is a lie. It doesn't do that. It blocks random websites that students get as a reward, it blocks random useful websites that students actually use for school projects. It is horrible what GoGuardian does, the mastermind of this whole thing. That is why they need to hear our voices, everyone needs to dedicate their time to getting rid of GoGuardian in Cedar Rapids.

     GoGuardian gives teachers a real-time feed of their students' screens and allows them to block any websites for individuals or groups. Students have no way of opting out of scenes and do not have to confirm that they know they are being monitored. The only indication is the appearance of an extension in their browser. This monitoring can happen whether or not a student is on school grounds. “Scenes” can last for eight hours and can be scheduled in advance to start at any time of the day or night, and if a teacher schedules a scene to start immediately after the next, then they could monitor a student 24/7. During a scene, GoGuardian collects minute-by-minute records of what is on a student’s screen and what tabs they have open, all of which can be easily viewed in a timeline. GoGuardian takes no responsibility for these potential abuses of their technology, instead putting the onus on school administrators to anticipate abuse and put systems in place to prevent it. In the meantime, GoGuardian is still accessing and collecting the data. 

        Millions of kids every day have to suffer a little bit because of GoGuardian, and the reason they suffer is because they feel like they're getting spied on. An article has evidence that many kids every day feel like their Privacy is getting invaded by GoGuardian, therefore making it spyware to them. GoGuardian needs to change this by making it less of a spyware, or else they need to ban it. Let's finish this battle once and for all and conquer GoGuardian, and we can only do it together, any kind of dedication to this petition, is one step closer to making many children in school happy again.
