Last week, I witnessed an alarming situation on the London Underground.

A group of innocuous children were sitting in a carriage surrounded by multiple adults who were vaping openly.

This scene has stayed with me, troubling my peace of mind as the health and safety of these children were at clear risk.

We still don't fully understand the long-term side effects of vaping, especially on young, developing bodies.

Public transport, including buses, trains, and the London Underground, is utilized by thousands of people daily, encompassing all age groups and backgrounds. It should be a sanctuary free from pollutants and harmful chemicals, ensuring everyone's wellbeing. Yet, with vaping becoming more common, it's turning into a pervasive issue that threatens public health and comfort and should be banned from public transport.

The exhaled aerosol can contain harmful substances such as nicotine, volatile organic compounds, and even heavy metals. No one, especially vulnerable groups like children and the elderly, should be involuntarily exposed to these dangers.

We are calling for a comprehensive ban and on the spot fines on vaping across all public transport systems in London and across country to prevent further exposure to these potentially harmful substances.

This ban should be coupled with the introduction of on-the-spot fines to deter individuals from violating this policy, serving as a concrete step towards safeguarding the health of all passengers.

This is not merely a matter of preference but a necessity for public safety. Other countries and cities have already taken decisive steps in implementing similar bans, setting a precedent that shows such measures can be successful and well-received. It's time for London to follow suit, ensuring our public transport maintains a clean and healthy environment for everyone.
