Yesterday, airing on the popular 2ZB, this included material I had sent to the station. It addressed major issues important for the public to know but which many don't, including the serious health risks involved in vaping, the stratospheric rates of vaping in NZ, the impact this will have in a 'tsunami' of health problems, the lack of quitting services, the criminal understating of vaping risk by the government, and the money it gets from each deal.
The audio is accurate but there is an error in the summary text for reading, where it states 'I' consider vaping too hazardous healthwise even for quitting tobacco. I had mentioned that the American Cancer Council and FDA state that.
I still support this petition's stance requesting vapes be in pharmacies. But I consider at some stage, hopefully soon, an alternative healthier means of quitting tobacco and nicotine addiction needs to be in place. (See previous update with suggested 7-8 activities the government may undertake to this end.) With vapes as a treatment one addictive toxic practice is simply being swapped for another, and is not addressing the nicotine addiction which binds users to these products.
Messrs Luxon, Seymour and Peters need to get into the first world on this issue, listen to the clinicians, and control the social and economic costs already apparent.
