Ban Unlicensed Breeding of Dogs in Lancaster, SC

The Issue

If you visit the Lancaster, SC Animal Shelter you will find that the majority of animals are bully breeds. This includes the American Pit Bull Terrier and the American Staffordshire Terrier and also labs, hounds, shepherds and more. Dogs come into the shelter in terrible conditions. Emaciated, heartworm positive, overbred, mastitis, pregnant, mommas dumped without pups, parvo positive, shot, hit by car, bite wounds, bait dogs, you name it we see it every single day. Only our law makers refuse to act and make change. These problems are the least of their concerns. Dogs are being bred faster than we can save them. Euthanasia rates are at an all time high. There's just not enough resources, fosters and time to keep up with the demand in our community for these unwanted animals.

We are asking for change. This never ending cycle of abuse needs to stop. Lancaster, SC we need to be the change. Every county shelter in the south is struggling to stay afloat. Hundreds of dogs travel north a week. Why? Because the laws and ordinances are better. Dogs are not valued as property, but as family. Only this is not sustainable, the north is being overwhelmed with southern animals and they are struggling to keep up with the problems we are allowing to continue.

Change starts in our own back yard. We are asking Lancaster County SC to help us stop this endless cycle. To help us end the breeding. Help us be the voice. We are asking YOU to hold backyard breeders accountable. We need mandatory registration of all pets within county and city limits. We need licensing requirements and fees for people who wish to not sterilize their animals or for those who wish to intentionally breed. These animals are paying the price everyday, it’s time people start being financially accountable for their inability to fix their animals.

Please sign and share with your friends and family.

Sincerely,

The Voiceless of Lancaster, SC
