The Issue

I never imagined I’d have to fight this hard just to be seen as human.

As a transgender Canadian, I’ve faced discrimination in schools, workplaces, and even healthcare settings. I’ve been misgendered, denied services, and told outright that I don’t belong. But I do belong. We all do.

This petition is not just about me—it’s about the thousands of trans people across Canada who live under the constant threat of hate, exclusion, and violence. It’s about the kids who are afraid to go to school because their identity makes them a target. It’s about the adults who fear losing their jobs, housing, or safety simply for being who they are.

📊 The Facts Speak Loudly

Hate crimes based on sexual orientation in Canada rose 69% from 2022 to 2023, and from 2016 to 2023, they increased by a staggering 388%.

Trans youth and adults are being targeted by legislation, including forced outing laws, Pride flag bans, and restrictions on gender-affirming care.

According to Statistics Canada, 59% of LGB+ people have been physically or sexually assaulted since age 15—compared to 37% of heterosexual people.

The Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has warned that anti-gender extremist rhetoric poses a serious and growing threat.

These numbers aren’t just statistics—they’re lives. They’re people like me, like your friends, your neighbors, your children.

🏳️‍⚧️ What We’re Asking for We call on the Government of Canada, Parliament, Justice Minister Sean Fraser, Minister of Public Safety in Canada Gary Anandasangaree, and Prime Minister Mark Carney to take immediate action:

Enact federal legislation that explicitly bans transphobia in all public institutions.

Strengthen protections for trans people in schools, workplaces, and healthcare.

Fund education campaigns to combat misinformation and promote inclusion.

Ensure law enforcement takes hate crimes against trans people seriously.

Canada prides itself on being inclusive and progressive. But until transphobia is treated as the urgent human rights crisis it is, we are failing our most vulnerable citizens.

Please sign and share this petition. Together, we can build a Canada where everyone—regardless of gender identity—is safe, respected, and free.
