The Issue

More people die from air pollution (UK approx 32k per year) than leaves (numbers unknown).

Follow other parts of the world in banning petrol leaf blowers. There is no necessity and excuse for this toxic practice. We are facing a climate emergency and everyone suffers the consequences of air pollution.

Leaf blowers are a minor convenience for a few but risk the physical and mental health of so many, especially children and vulnerable people.

Leaf bowers:

  • Pollution from 1h leaf blower = pollution from 1,100 car miles (= Lands End to John o'Groats and back to Glasgow)
  • Toxic fumes, industrial pollutants and dust (including dried animal faeces) cause asthma attacks, headaches, heart & lung disease, cancer and dementia
  • EXTREME NOISE is detrimental to mental health and can cause permanent hearing damage
  • Erode + dry out soil & harm plants
  • Destroy habitats and harm small animals & pollinators

Brooms & rakes:

  • Keep the air clean and children healthier
  • Exercise is good for mental and physical health
  • Quiet environments without noise pollution make for happier people and animals
  • Habitats of insects and mammals can stay intact & soil stays healthy
  • Much more efficient, especially in wet weather
