Ban Totally, Smoking/Vaping In Public Places make It A Criminal Offence if found doing so.
The Issue
Its with a saddened heart I write, for the while I am aware everyone has rights but your rights should never infringe on another especially the Health of innocent ,sick and dying and those who are afraid to speak up and or speak out and are suffering quietly. The NHS Hospital where I am employed as A Physician's Assistant is faced with the main entrance to the Hospital with a cloud of carcinogenic smoke every day all through the day and night no one of the powers that be in the Trust could remedy the problem.
Its unfair to stand awaiting a Taxi with a baby who is on cancer treatment and or very acutely or terminally ill Patients and relatives including the Elderly and New Born Babies and staff to have to inhale second hand smoke. Persons endure it and are afraid to voice their concerns for fear of retaliation and or victimisation. I think it has gone on for far too long and no one really enforced change to stop smoking at the main entrance of this Hospital, its a deadly hazard and it should not have been allowed and it should not continue because it can extremely be hazardous to ones general health plus its unfair for the one who do not smoke or vape to inhale second hand smoke which can certainly compromise their status of health of the which is the most deadliest smoke to inhale.
Personally,I have had relatives who died as per result of CANCER,and based on research persons who inhale second hand smoke from cigars/vaping and all other such alike are in more danger and are more susceptable in developing to different forms of cancers.
Cancer is a killer and it leaves millions of famalies in deep sorrow,we are all in this together and second hand smoke inhaled by you and I and children and Elderly, babies puts us all at a very very high risk of becoming ill.
Research also proves that second hand smoke may lead to certain birth defects
.
Here are some terrifying facts and data, The total current healthcare expenditure in the UK in 2021 was £280.7billion,equating to £4,188 per person this clearly states the amount of money being used for curative treatment within the NHS.
The planned spending for the Department of Health and Social Care in England now stands at a whooping £180.2 billion in 2022/23.The majority of the Departments spending (£156.6 billion in 2022/23)is passed to NHS England and NHS Improvement for spending on health services. Overall the total annual UK Government funding for cancer research of approximately £112 million (a combination of MRC funding for cancer research and NHS R&D support for clinical cancer research) is low compared to that made by Governments in other advanced nations.
The cost to treat cancer privately in the UK is approximately costing an individual up to £30,000 for just one round of chemotherapy. Chemotherapy costs the NHS an estimated £1.4 billion a year, in another survey conducted by this UK Government of total NHS spend, cancer care accounted for £5.81 billion, equating to 5.6% of total NHS budget and this figure would increase significantly at a very fast rate because more and more babies, children, teens and adults are being diagnosed with cancer.
Statistics proves that a regular smoker or vaper is at a very high risk and more so one who is exposed to second hand smoke of developing cancer.
New Demos research into the economic impact of cancer has been published and it calculates it to be £7.6 billion in lost wages and benefits including mortality. There are now 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK and this figure does not represent babies, children, teens, young adults. By the year 2030,this figure may be as high as four million adults alone. The big question is can this be sustainable, massive massive funding to treat cancer when we can as a Nation educate and help people to kick the habit of smoking entirely and to reduce other risk factors BAN SMOKING/VAPING IN PUBLIC PLACES AND MAKE IT A CRIMINAL OFFENCE.
This big chunk of the NHS budget throughout the UK is weakening this economy, for example in 2022,gross domestic product per head in the United Kingdom was £32,904 British Pounds, an increase of £1,090 pounds when compared with 2021 and this was post covid which may have encouraged more people to add to their shopping bags cigarettes and vapes because during no restrictions were placed on these items. There is no fixed control on what you can and cannot buy with benefits given to you from the UK Government hence feel free spending takes charge but at the end of the day the expense is on the economy and that is the bigger picture.
Some other facts to consider, people diagnosed with cancer, are over 2 million and around 130,000 die as a result of the disease. Annual NHS costs for cancer services are £5 billion, but the cost to society as a whole including costs for loss of productivity is £18.3 billion. More people are surviving cancer but living with it and are sick every day because of radiation and chemotherapy and other cancer medications and are on benefits because most cannot work to bring in an income again and these rates are still higher and worse than those other countries that are as wealthy as the UK.
We can reduce all these mortality figures and other related disease if we take a stand and BAN SMOKING/VAPING IN PUBLIC PLACES AND MAKE IT CRIMINAL OFFENCE IF FOUND DOING SO.
NO ONE CANCER PATIENT AS PER RESULT OF SMOKING/VAPING OR SECOND HAND SMOKE LIVES IN A VACCUM,WE ARE ALL AFFECTED INCLUDING THE UK ECONOMY.
When I raised the issue on the NHS Trust Facebook page I realised 100% of the comments were geared towards people wanting to see change not just for themselves but for all whose general health is at risk from inhaling second hand smoke. Based on this I am impressed to call on you the Citizen/Resident to sign this Petition so lives can be saved, for this present Government and the Opposition Party to unanimously vote to Ban Smoking/Vaping In All Public Places and make it A Criminal Offence
