Ban TikTok in Malaysia to Combat Misuse and Rising Cyberbullying

Ban TikTok in Malaysia to Combat Misuse and Rising Cyberbullying
The Issue
A personal loss brought us here, a loss resultant of unchecked cyberbullying on the platform TikTok. The unfortunate suicide of our loved one due to incessant bullying was the tipping point. Today, we plead for a comprehensive response to the caustic problem plaguing our nation.
Recent years have witnessed a disturbing surge in cyberbullying incidents in Malaysia, with platforms like TikTok often being the breeding grounds. These platforms are becoming hotbeds for harmful cyber activities, increasing the risk of youth exploitation, privacy invasion, and grievous mental health consequences. The severity of the situation is highlighted by the tragic realities of people taking their own lives to escape online torture.
The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission disclosed that between 2012 and 2016, reports of cyberbullying rose by 20% while global studies suggest that at least 37% of children have been a victim of cyber harassment. TikTok, a prime platform for such activities, has over 20 million users in Malaysia, potentially exposing approximately 20% of the entire population to a risk they neither need nor deserve.
To combat this, more substantial action is needed from the Malaysian government to safeguard its online community. We move towards urging the Malaysian government to ban TikTok in Malaysia and prioritize the safety and well-being of its people over temporary online amusement. By doing so, we can help safeguard our society from the harms and fatal risks of cyberbullying.
Help us begin the fervent battle against cyberbullying. Stand with us, sign this petition to push for the elimination of such toxic platforms and let's work together to protect our loved ones.
