Automatic License Plate Recognition (ALPR) cameras, such as those provided by Flock Safety, pose significant privacy risks and have been shown to disproportionately affect marginalized communities. These ALPR cameras collect vast amounts of data on innocent citizens without their consent, leading to potential misuse and abuse. Studies indicate that ALPR systems can result in false positives, which may lead to wrongful detentions or surveillance (source: ACLU). Furthermore, there is little evidence that these systems effectively reduce crime rates. "Big Brother" has become a phrase for abuse of government power, particularly in respect to civil liberties, often specifically related to mass surveillance and a lack of choice in society. Critics argue that the constant monitoring of vehicle movements constitutes an invasion of privacy. These cameras can track individuals’ movements without their consent, potentially logging where they live, work, or visit. The right to privacy is a personal and fundamental right, protected by the Constitution of the United States.
