Ban animal circuses on QPRC council land

The issue

In May 2021, Stardust Circus were forced to retire exotic animals that were made to perform for human entertained. This was NOT due to Stardust acknowledging that using scare tactics to ensure animals perform is wrong. This decision was forced on them when they were unable to secure insurance for their animals.

This was a major win for Australia, with PETA spokesperson claiming that “The overwhelming majority of Australians understand that captivity is a living hell for animals such as monkeys and lions and that a circus environment can’t possibly meet their complex needs".

However, the circus is STILL using dogs, goats and horses to perform unnatural tricks for the benefit of human entertainment. They use scare tactics and deprive the animals of food in order to get them to perform effectively. This is wrong and completely unacceptable in this day and age. The circus is no place for ANY animal. The environment is ill-equipped to  deal with the physiological, social and behavioural needs of these animals.

We are calling on the Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council to ban the circus on council land. This will position Queanbeyan-Palerang Regional Council to be in line with other progressive councils who have already taken action to protect defenceless animals.
