It all started when I was a child. I visited a circus and the sight of the animals, trapped and miserable, made me cry. From that day on, those images were seared into my mind. The fact that these poor creatures might just be suffering and dying for the sheer amusement of people seemed unbearably cruel to me.

We have evolved as a society, so why haven't our practices? The statistics, however, are very disturbing. According to Animal Defenders International, most circus animals spend about 96% of their lives in cages or chains and it has been observed that these animals often exhibit signs of stress and behavioral abnormalities—a clear indication of their suffering (source: Animal Defenders International).

It's high time we take a stand. Countries like Greece, Bolivia, Costa Rica, and many more have already implemented bans on animal circuses citing their inhumane nature (source: PETA). It is time the rest of the world followed suit. We need to join hands and voices to ensure the well-being of all creatures and ban the use of animals in circuses. It's a cruelty we can prevent.
