Ban the spraying of Glyphosate in Ballarat's public parks and places
The Issue
Hi All,
As a husband and father to 2 young kids I'd like to see Ballarat Council eliminate the use of all Commercial Pesticides in our Public Parks and Places.
I believe that Ballarat could be a world leader in this area and show other Towns and Countries just how easy this is to achieve and how beneficial this is for our health.
Glyphosate is the chemical found in most Commerical Weedkillers, but more famously in RoundUp. There have been many thousands of cases in the US where people exposed to these chemicals develop Cancer, most commonly Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma.
There is much scientific debate regarding how safe Glyphosate is.
There is huge amounts of research that suggest it has a negative effect on our gut health, leading to things like leaky gut as well as causing cancers and other conditions.
Monsanto, now Bayer is the company that produces RoundUp. They claim it is safe to use but they are the ones profiting enormously from its use.
The facts are it is killing our soil, leading to food that is lower in nutrient density and killing the people who eat that food (in my opinion).
No matter where you sit on the argument, it would not be that difficult to move to another method of managing weeds.
Using steam is an effective and safe alternative, and there are other Organic methods that can also be used to manage weeds without using potentially harmful chemicals.
Whenever we come into contact with these chemicals we absorb them through the skin, causing distress to our gut health and Microbiome.
They are particularly harmful to pets such as dogs who walk barefoot on grasses where these chemicals get sprayed and then lick themselves afterward.
Some people estimate most vet bills would be eliminated if we did not spray Glyphosate as dogs would live longer and be healthier.
Thanks for reading and please sign so we can show the council how much this means to our community and start improving everybody's health.
