Ban the Sale and Use of Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides in New York
The Issue
Every year, I see innocent wildlife struggle to survive, victims of Second-Generation Anticoagulant Rodenticides (SGARs). As a New York resident dedicated to wildlife conservation, I am deeply saddened to witness our native species suffer unnecessarily from toxins that could be removed from the environment.
SGARs are incredibly harmful, causing widespread deaths in non-target wildlife, including owls, hawks, foxes, coyotes, bobcats, and even our beloved domestic pets. These chemicals remain in the bodies of poisoned rodents for weeks, leading to fatal secondary poisoning of the animals that prey on them, disrupting the fragile balance of our local ecosystem.
Furthermore, in recent studies, over 80% of wildlife tested had been exposed to rodenticides, clearly showing the damaging impact widespread use of these chemicals can have. Particularly in the case of predators like raptors and large mammals, these deaths significantly affect the natural control of rodent populations, leading to a vicious circle of rodenticide use.
Together we can bring an end to this silent crisis. Join us in urging our local and state legislators to immediately restrict the use and sale of SGARs in New York. Let's protect our ecosystem, our domestic pets, and the wild creatures that make our state so wonderfully diverse. Sign this petition now and contribute to the wellbeing of our natural world.
