Dear supporters,
Thank you for adding your voice to our campaign to stop hooning in Barangaroo, Millers Point and Walsh Bay. Together, over 1,200 residents, workers, and businesses have signed the petition — and your support is already making a real difference.
We have now sent formal letters to seven key leaders and ministers on your behalf, including the Premier of NSW, the Police Minister, the Health Minister, the Environment Minister, the Tourism Minister, our local MP Alex Greenwich, and Lord Mayor Clover Moore.
In these letters we highlighted:
• The severe sleep disruption residents face, with some forced to take sleeping tablets to cope.
• The $51 billion annual cost of sleep deprivation to Australia, including nearly 1,000 deaths each year.
• The safety risks confirmed by recent Sydney City Police blitzes (drink driving arrests, drug testing, licence suspensions, and unroadworthy vehicles in a single night).
• The damage to Sydney’s liveability and tourism reputation — including an example where diners on Barangaroo Avenue could not hold a conversation due to the ear-piercing roar of hoons.
We have asked the Government to:
1. Prioritise Barangaroo, Millers Point, and Walsh Bay for noise cameras once trials are complete.
2. Provide a regular weekend police presence in the meantime.
3. Undertake a road design review to make the precinct unattractive for hooning.
