Seeing the rising menace of porn addiction among young adults is worrisome. It’s an often overlooked issue, largely because of our inability to hold meaningful conversations around it. This addiction is not harmless. It's a mentally debilitating illness that is drastically changing the lives of our young adults in ways too numerous to ignore.

Suspicions of the impact of sexual content on social media have been corroborated by research. A study by the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) shows that exposure to pornography at a young age is directly linked to adverse mental health outcomes, fostering unrealistic expectations about sexual relationships, promoting aggressive behavior and leading to addiction. 

OnlyFans and similar services are proliferating on mainstream platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, thereby achieving widespread accessibility among young people who are simply not equipped to deal with the resulting psychological consequences.

We need to take a stand. For the welfare of our children, our siblings, our friends. It is time to pressure social media platforms into eliminating explicit content and banning sources like OnlyFans. Contrary to popular belief, the internet should not be a place where anything goes. It needs rules and regulations just like any other public space to protect its most vulnerable users.
