Snark subreddits have devastating effects on people’s mental health. One reason for this is because they often pick specific people to start hate campaigns against. 

 Mikayla Raines, the founder of Save-A-Fox sanctuary, was targeted and harassed by people from all over the internet, including individuals from a snark subreddit, until eventually, she committed suicide. 

There are some snark subreddits that go even further, existing primarily to mock or slander victims of violent crimes. Shanann Watts and her daughters, Bella Watts and Celeste Watts, who were only three and four years old when they were murdered by their father are only a few of the people that have been targeted by these hateful subreddits.
