My name is Rohit Srikanth and I am a resident of Edison, NJ, a beautiful city that is currently struggling with the devastating effects of plastic pollution. Our vast coastal areas, serene harbor estuaries, are all under immense threat due to the abundant influx of single-use plastic waste. This plastic pollution is a critical issue, endangering biodiversity and threatening the long-term viability of our ecosystems.

The UN Environment Programme (UNEP), in its report, confirmed that around 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans every year. In our state of NJ alone, the Clean Ocean Action's beach sweeps report in 2019 found that 80% of items collected were plastic, continually proving that single-use plastic is a significant contributor to this growing problem.

To safeguard our state's rich and vibrant environment, we must act now and tackle the root cause of the issue - single-use plastics. Considering the severity of the repercussions, adopting an unequivocal ban on single-use plastics becomes not just a choice, but a dire necessity.
