I want to share with you an opinion piece just published in USA Today written by Shain Neumeier, a lawyer, disability rights advocate and autistic person. Shain's powerful piece about why the FDA should ban these devices can be read here: http://usat.ly/1OydsaI Unfortunately, I've heard that the FDA may be receiving more comments from people who are opposed to banning these devices than they are from people who support the ban. This is why it's so important that you leave a comment -- it will only take a few minutes and could have a huge impact. Please, if you haven't left a comment with the FDA yet do so here: http://1.usa.gov/1TS5jwL (read the summary then click the blue Comment Now! button). I've included a sample comment for you at the bottom of this update. The Judge Rotenberg Center is powerful and they're fighting this ban. We need to stand up to them! Thank you for your support -- Greg Miller Sample Comment: Dear FDA, Thank you for your proposal to ban Electrical Stimulation Devices such as those used at the Canton, MA Judge Rotenberg Center. Please follow through with the ban. Over 188,000 people have signed a petition in support of you banning these devices. Using shock devices on vulnerable people with disabilities is wrong, cruel, and unnecessary. Please take into account that nearly 200,000 people are in favor of your proposed regulation to ban these torturous and unworkable devices that are generally used on a very vulnerable sector of society, those with Self-Injurious Behavior and Aggressive Behavior.
