Ban Puppy Farms in NSW

Ban Puppy Farms in NSW
The issue
Despite the ban on puppy farms in other Australian states, NSW allows their existence. I was horrified when a shocking 2015 investigation unveiled 'upright tombs' where dogs were trapped, deprived of sunlight, and obligated to eat, sleep, and simply exist amid feces-infested cages. Unfortunately not much has changed since then.
Puppy farms in NSW are unchecked industrial breeding facilities, treating female dogs as mere reproductive machines. This scenario is enabled by the lack of numeric restrictions on dogs or litter limits. The legality of these farms in NSW, when such practices have been outlawed in other states, is a loophole that we must act to close, especially since unethical breeders from other states now moved to NSW.
Moreover, the commercial sale of pets in pet shops continues, indirectly encouraging these cruel puppy farms. Most often, these shops are unaware or turn a blind eye to the inhumane conditions where these pets are bred.
It's time that we urge the NSW policymakers to prioritize the wellbeing of these innocent animals, seeking legislation to end puppy farming practices and the sale of pets in pet shops. These changes will encourage pet adoption, reducing the demand for breeders and their often repugnant methods of operation. This will also reduce the number of dogs that nobody wants and that are euthanised every day in NSW.
Let's stand together. Let's give a voice to those who can't speak for themselves. Sign this petition, demand an end to puppy farms, and call for the prohibition of pet sales in pet shops in NSW.
