Petition to Raise the Minimum Age for Participation in Pornography to 21

We, the undersigned, believe that no one under the age of 21 should be allowed to participate in the porn industry. Currently, in many places, 18 is the minimum legal age to perform in pornography. However, we recognize that at 18, young people are still in a vulnerable stage of life—just beginning adulthood, still developing mentally, emotionally, and financially.

The decision to become involved in the porn industry is one that can have lifelong consequences. At 18, many young people are not yet equipped to fully understand or consent to the long-term impact this choice may have on their mental health, reputation, safety, and future opportunities.

Furthermore, the porn industry has long been linked with human trafficking, exploitation, and coercion. By raising the minimum age to 21, we create a stronger barrier against predatory practices that target vulnerable young adults. This change would protect individuals who might otherwise be pressured or manipulated into entering the industry before they are truly ready to make such a life-altering decision.

This petition calls on lawmakers, regulators, and community leaders to take action: Raise the minimum legal age for appearing in pornography from 18 to 21.
