Ban pickleball play at all HDB neighbourhood courts

Ban pickleball play at all HDB neighbourhood courts
The Issue
Pickleball, while a fun and engaging sport for many, is causing significant disturbances within our HDB communities in Singapore. Residents are increasingly expressing concern about the noise levels at neighbourhood courts due to this activity. As these courts are nestled within residential areas, the loud impact of pickleball games are heavily affecting the peace and tranquillity we value in our living spaces.
The sound created by pickleball, which uses hard paddles and plastic balls, can reach disruptive decibel levels, especially when played in a confined area such as an HDB court. This noise pollution is more than just an inconvenience; it's a growing nuisance that affects families, children, and elderly residents who seek quiet and comfort in their homes. Studies have shown that prolonged exposure to high noise levels can lead to increased stress and health issues, including sleep disturbances and impaired concentration.
We understand the importance of recreational activities for both physical and mental well-being, which is why we are not proposing a complete ban on pickleball but rather a restriction on its play within HDB neighbourhood courts. Alternative locations such as dedicated sports complexes or community centres, which are better equipped to handle such activities, should be made available for pickleball enthusiasts.
We call upon the authorities to reassess the suitability of allowing pickleball at these neighbourhood courts and to consider relocating the activity to less residential areas. This will help in reinstating the serene environment our communities deserves.
Sign this petition to support a balanced and peaceful coexistence in our HDB precincts for all residents.
