Ban of Paparazzi Act

The Issue

Since Hollywood was established, it’s obvious how taking the job as a celebrity can be mentally draining. There are many factors to why one can be so exhausted from the fame. Some may say it’s from being overworked or from feud with other celebrities. While that may be true, even before the invention of smartphones, one of the main conflicts seems to be paparazzi.

Celebrities such as Britney Spears, Ashton Kutcher, and Emma Watson are unfortunately a few of the many people that have mentally suffered due to being stalked by paparazzi. There have been many times where paparazzi have hidden outside of a person’s home just to get something out of them. It’s clear that most of the time the paparazzi just invade a celebrity’s privacy and never have any sorrow for it. They trespass private properties, attempt getting pictures up women’s skirts/dresses, and follow celebrities (and sometimes their family) wherever they go, never giving them a chance to obtain the privacy they deserve. Them doing this has caused drastic changes in a celebrity’s private life. They are a huge reason why many celebrities wish they could go back to their old life before they encountered fame.

If the paparazzi proceed to do their job, not only will the previous generations of celebrities continue to suffer from an invasion of privacy, but the future generations of Hollywood will also have to experience being sexualized, followed, and stalked by paparazzi. Celebrities are still people and should be given the privacy as one, too.

Though paparazzi should’ve been stopped decades ago, we should now take the chance to put an end to them before more lives are destroyed. Legal action needs to be take in order to protect the lives of the people that consistently help our community by doing things such as promoting their beliefs, donating to charities, and helping out their local piers. They utilize the first amendment to stand up for what they believe in and to protect communities. Meanwhile, paparazzi are using that amendment incorrectly by following people home instead of just simply asking questions. Even if the paparazzi can’t be banned, legal limits should at least be set in order to protect the lives of the beloved celebrities.
