Our dog has always been a cherished member of our family, offering unconditional love and companionship. However, every year during fireworks season, he is plagued by immense stress and anxiety brought on by the loud and unexpected explosions. This suffering is not unique to him. Guide dogs, all service animals, horses, wildlife and nearly all pets experience fear, anxiety and distress as a result of loud fireworks.

It's not just animals who suffer – vulnerable individuals, especially those in care homes, those with a nervous disposition and those with PTSD are also affected. The loud, sudden bursts can trigger panic attacks, flashbacks, and severe distress for countless individuals who are simply trying to lead normal lives. The impact of these explosions extends beyond momentary discomfort; it disrupts lives and can have lasting negative effects on mental health.

However, the excitement and spectacle of fireworks can be preserved without the extensive noise. Quiet fireworks, now available in many forms, provide a joyous and responsible solution that respects the enjoyment of the celebration, while preventing the stress caused by sudden explosions. Numerous events have already seen success with these more conscientious pyrotechnic alternatives — they offer stunning displays without the accompanying distress and trauma.

I firmly believe that we can all enjoy celebrations without inflicting harm on others. By regulating the use of loud fireworks and promoting quieter alternatives, we make a compassionate choice that values the dignity and peace of all members of our society.
