Ban knee blocks on saddles during FEI Competitions, used as leverage against the bit.

The Issue

Dear fellow equestrians,

We, the undersigned, believe that BIG knee blocks on saddles hinder proper riding technique and horse welfare. These blocks, often used by modern riders who lack an independent seat in FEI competitions, serve as a leverage point akin to a curb bit.

Riders who rely on knee blocks tend to lean back, which pulls on the curb bit and creates discomfort for the horse.

Knee blocks restrict the rider's leg from moving naturally with the horse, preventing a true connection between the horse and the rider.

They can also cause discomfort for the horse, as the rider's weight is unevenly distributed.

Furthermore, when riders pull back with their hands on the curb bit, horses are forced to "hop" to avoid being yanked too severely in the mouth. This unnatural movement can lead to lameness and other health issues.

We ask the ruling authorities in FEI Dressage to reject using saddles with "knee blocks" during FEI competitions.  The FEI forbids top hats, to increase safety for riders, we want the FEI to remove knee blocks for the safety of the horses. See the Facebook group "Discussions about FEI DRESSAGE if you have any questions and wish to discuss the subject.

Do sign when you understand how horses feel under riders who need those huge knee blocks.  Thank you for signing after you realise how they are being used.
