I am writing this letter to you to raise awareness about global warming. I believe if we were all to take part in doing small simple tasks it could really help and make an improvement! I try my hardest to make helping the environment a lifestyle rather than look upon it as a chore. I am only 18, but I think that learning young is the best way to start. Teaching generations about these issues early will have a huge impact for future generations and making life as great as it is now.

This is an issue because no one actually thinks about how running your car for those extra two minutes is helping flood that luxurious resort you visited last summer or that delicious steak you ate last night just caused you to poison the air just a little bit more.  I think the problem is that there's not enough awareness nor people trying to solve the problem that is costing us our own life. There is more carbon dioxide in the atmosphere today than at any point in the last 800,000 years, and since 1870, global sea levels have risen by about 8 inches. Global warming puts coral reefs in danger as the ocean warms. Scientists fear that coral reefs will not be able to adapt quickly enough to the changing conditions, and bleaching incidents and diseases will increase. The future gives me shakes and i think everyone else should feel them to.

If you would like to be involved and to help stop the amount global warming I would start by doing one of the easiest things and buying from your community. This might not sound like much but, supporting local food market and buying from second hand stores helps save from making product that we don't need. Did you know there's 315 billion pounds of plastic in the ocean right now, so just think, do you really need that extra bag? No you don't, avoid using plastic bags, water bottles or anything that has too much packaging. A big one that could have a huge impact is cutting down on beef. Cows release between 150 billion gallons of methane per day. Start to Increase the amount of seafood, and chicken you're eating and decrease on the beef. Switch to LED lightbulbs, or make your space more energy efficient by sealing drafts and ensuring it’s properly insulated. The single biggest way you can really help make an impact on global warming is speaking up and sign! Talk to your friends and family, try to help them and get them supporting the idea.

So what do you think? Are you someone who is willing to change a little for a lot? I hope so, think about the future. Do you really want to destroy the only home we have and dying from diseases. I would like you to really consider taking part and join me in my cause to become part of the solution; making the world a better place for us and future generations. Nations around the world have upped their game in the fight against climate change. In 2015, 195 countries signed a historic agreement to reduce their carbon emissions, with the goal of limiting future warming to well below 2 degrees Celsius. If we all come together it could really make a change and one day you will be thanking yourself.
