The issue

For years, Lake Narracan has been our go-to spot for water skiing—a refuge where we could glide across the surface, feeling the fresh spray of water and the exhilaration of the sun on our skin. My friends, family, and I have shared countless memories on this lake, our laughter echoing across the waters. But recently, an increasing number of jetskis has made it nearly impossible for us to enjoy these moments. I’m a proud boat owner. Boats are way less dangerous than reckless Jetskis

Jetskis, powerful and fast, slice through the lake, leaving large waves in their wake, causing risks not only to water skiers like us but also to other recreational users and local wildlife. The noise pollution disrupts the tranquility of our once peaceful outings, turning a serene escape into a chaotic environment. Many of us have witnessed near-accidents and have been forced out of our cherished hobbies due to these invasive machines.

Studies show that jetskis contribute significantly to water pollution and pose a danger to aquatic life. According to a report published by the Victorian Environment Protection Authority, the emissions from a two-hour ride on a jetski can rival those of a car driven for over 300 kilometers. Furthermore, the high speed and erratic patterns of jetskiing disturb the habitat of numerous bird species and fish populations that thrive in the lake.

We need to act now to preserve Lake Narracan for future generations. Banning jetskis would not only restore the lake's tranquility but also protect local wildlife, reduce pollution, and allow all visitors to enjoy the lake safely. Neighboring areas like Lake Ballarat have successfully implemented similar bans, and these places have seen a positive impact on both the environment and the community.

Please join us in calling on the local council and environmental authorities to take immediate action. Help us protect Lake Narracan from jetskis so that everyone can enjoy it as we once did. Sign our petition and be a part of the change to bring back the joy and safety of Lake Narracan for all water enthusiasts.
