Arkansas Virtual Academy (or Avra) is a virtual learning school, This school uses the website known as IXL. This web platform is NOTIRIOUS for giving students depression, panic attacks, and general anxiety.  Ixl claims millions of educatoers and students use Ixl happily, whilst in reality, Ixl is used because teachers like anyalyitics, NOT because it helps the kids learn (not to mention the fact it isn't learning but rather a repetition algorithm and that students are forced to use it, not of their own free will) ANother issue with Ixl is that they claim to NEVER sell student data, while in their terms they say that they can (and will) do just that. In May 2023, three Kansas families filed a class action lawsuit because IXL was doing just that, selling the students' data to bigger companies for profit. Ixl also claims to tailor to each student's needs, which is simply false. In homes with learning disabilities, IXL is a daily struggle. Several students with Ocd, ADD, Adhd, and autism have been exempt from IXL simply because it was destroying their mental and physical health. 

Here are some statements from students who are FORCED to use it :

" Just this year alone, I've spent 20 hours on iXL, while last year I spent 60 hours. Ixl is genuinely something I've spent hours upon hours on single "skills". My friends and I genuinely just share the answers because it is so trash. I end up teaching myself (AND my friends) because of how TRASH this website is. My family has watched DUMBFOUNDED as I attempt to do IXL. In my mother's words, "it just forces questions at you until you somehow get it right with brute force." I have CRIED and RAGED over this INSANELY idiotic app. I would write more, but I have to do my TWO advanced algebra IXLs or else I'll fail, so.. adios friends."

"It caused a heavy amount of stress, and I was doing it for 3-4 hours cause I couldnt get to 80%."

"The grading system is abysmal. By the time you get to a "smartscore" of 60 the amount of points you get drops from 10 to 15 down to 1 or 3 and when you get a higher score the bigger your score drops if you get one wrong. I and many others have cried over doing IXL assignments because of the fact that the grading system is so messed up and I believe that we should get rid of IXL assignments entirely in school, as I believe the negative effects of IXL out weigh the benefits seen by teachers since for a lot of people it's easier to cheat on an assignment to get it over with then put yourself through the mental exhaustion to do the assignments. I have personally had my mental health negatively affected by IXL in middle school because my math teacher assigned so many IXLs a day that I constantly had them over due because I couldn't complete all of them in one day and this caused an eminence amount of stress, in fact, even the thought of doing IXL tends to cause a feeling of dread and anxiety that I can't get rid of."
