The Issue

Please come out and peacefully demonstrate at Beaconsfield Library on March 6, 1pm to 5pm.  https://facebook.com/events/s/educazoo-animals-from-yesterda/868281719539339/?

Growing up in Beaconsfield, I've always cherished the beautiful coexistence of nature and suburban life. However, I am deeply concerned with the current practice of allowing interactive travelling wildlife shows within our community. Particularly disturbing is the zoo called Woof Meow, housed at the back of a local pet store. Despite a ban on pet sales, exotic animals like non-venomous reptiles, hedgehogs, quails, and fish are being displayed in confined spaces away from natural light.

These animals, while deemed safe in terms of interaction, are subject to enormous stress when handled frequently by children. The environments they are kept in are unnatural and unsuitable. The constant moving and interaction not only exposes these animals to potential diseases but also sends the wrong message to our young generation. Children are taught to see these wildlife creatures as toys rather than wild beings deserving of their natural habitats.

The situation is exacerbated by the Beaconsfield Library hosting similar travelling zoological exhibitions through franchises like Educazoo. Such practices involve transporting animals from one location to another, which only adds strain and discomfort to these creatures. The stress of new environments and frequent handling by curious little hands is not the life these animals were meant to lead. The city bans the sale of pets, yet overlooks the impact of allowing animals to be on display in such conditions.

We need to protect these vulnerable creatures from undue stress and teach our children the importance of respecting wildlife as part of the natural world they belong to. It's imperative that we instill in them the understanding that animals are not mere objects for entertainment, but living beings with intrinsic needs and rights.

By urging the City of Beaconsfield to implement a ban on interactive travelling wildlife shows, we can bring awareness to this pressing issue and foster a more ethical interaction with our ecosystem. Join me in advocating for these voiceless animals and in shaping a compassionate community by signing this petition. Let's ensure Beaconsfield stands for the protection and respect of wildlife.
