Ban The Illegal Selling of Stolen Dogs at Ruaka Roundabout and Stop Animal Cruelty

Ban The Illegal Selling of Stolen Dogs at Ruaka Roundabout and Stop Animal Cruelty
The Issue
The illegal dog market established at the Ruaka roundabout is not only inhumane to man's best friend but an illegality in of itself. The dog sellers are not licensed and neither has the roundabout been sanctioned and certified by the Kiambu County Government as a licensed market to sell our furry friends. Sign this petition to put an end to the illegal dog market which also dabbles in stolen pets.
The Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act CAP 360 creates for cruelty offences and a raft of stringent punishment meted out to all who break these laws.
Over the past few years the Ruaka roundabout has become the go to area in terms of buying stolen dogs. Unsuspecting customers who frequent the dog market further the trade by purchasing the pets which have erstwhile been stolen from their loving families leaving them devastated. Additionally these dogs are kept out in the sun all day leading to hunger, dehydration and exhaustion. There has been a rise in dog theft cases and people end up finding their dogs at this roundabout. The sellers are ruthless, stealing dogs from different parts of the town and selling them.
This petition demands:
1. That the Kiambu County Council through the relevant department(s) stop the illegal dog market immediately.
2. That the stolen dogs are recovered from the sellers and rehabilitated in animal partner rescue centres.
An annual business permit is required to conduct any business in Kenya; however, these hawkers are operating illegally without a business permit. It is against the law to have an unlicensed dog, failure to which the person is eligible for a fine of Ksh 5000 or face a two-month jail sentence.
Please help us by signing the petition. We want to get the attention of the Kiambu County Council so they can put an end to this. Harsh laws for pet theft ought to be enforced.
