Ban ICE From Stanford Campus & Declare it a Sanctuary Campus

The Issue

Stanford students, faculty, and patients should not have to live in fear of the violent, inhumane tactics of Immigration Customs Enforcement (ICE). The treatment of detainees, protesters, and innocent bystanders by immigration officials constitutes human rights violations and is an issue of reproductive justice. Due to new federal policies undocumented and international students, as well as DACA recipients, are at a particularly high risk for detention and deportation.

Detained people, especially pregnant people and women often face: Inadequate prenatal and reproductive healthcare, denial or delay of medical treatment, denial of an attorney, lack of access to abortion and contraception, increased stress and trauma (that can contribute to higher rate of miscarriage or premature birth), and poor or no mental health support. (Morcelle, 2021) There have even been accounts of coerced sterilization within centers. (ACLU, 2020)

There have been reports of patients being taken from Stanford Hospital as well as ICE being present on campus during both 2025 and 2026. The university’s current policy is that ICE can enter public areas of campus without permission.

We ask that Stanford do the following four things to protect its students, faculty, and patients:

  1. Declare Stanford a Sanctuary Campus (in alignment with the AASU Joint Resolution)
  2. Ban ICE from all parts of campus, including Stanford medical facilities
  3. Remove the Flock cameras from campus entrances and exits
  4. Create safe, non-public areas for students and faculty to enter around campus should ICE officials arrive
