Ban Homework Nationwide in the U.S. to Improve Student Well-being

The Issue

Every day, I rush to school, trying to catch up on missing assignments while striving for A's and keeping up with my classwork. Once home, I find my little sister watching TV and the other one sleeping. My Xbox stands tall in my room as I sit down at my computer. On Schoology, I see 7 assignments due today and 9 overdue. Despite rushing to finish them all, it's impossible. Regardless of my good grades, it’s a struggle to keep up due the insurmountable amount of homework. This is a reality for many students like me across the U.S., not just an isolated incident.

Homework overload is a serious issue affecting our youth's mental health and well-being. According to Stanford University research (2014), over 56% of students consider homework a primary source of stress; this leads not only to less effective learning but also impacts their physical health negatively.

It's time we rethink our education system’s approach towards homework assignments that leave no time for kids like us to be kids anymore - no time for play or rest or family interaction - all crucial aspects of growing up healthy and balanced.

We are calling on lawmakers across the country: Ban excessive homework nationwide in the U.S.! Let us learn effectively during school hours so that we can live fully outside them too! Please sign this petition if you believe in creating an education system that values quality over quantity and promotes student well-being above all else.
