Ban GoGuardian from schools
The Issue
(PLS DONT DONATE MONEY ITS FOR A PERSONAL PROJECT but like still i need this)
**Protect Students' Privacy: Ban GoGuardian from Our Schools**
Imagine sitting in class, focusing on your studies, only to realize that every click you make, every message sent to your friends, and every search term entered into the search bar is being monitored. This is the reality students face when their schools use GoGuardian, a tool designed to oversee students' online activity.
As a student who values my privacy, I am deeply concerned about the invasive nature of GoGuardian. It has access to pictures, private conversations, and even our browsing history—even if it's deleted. Such an extensive reach into students’ personal lives is not only disturbing but also a violation of our rights to privacy and freedom.
GoGuardian claims to protect us, but at what cost? The cost is our privacy. Around 60% of schools in the United States reportedly use digital surveillance tools like GoGuardian, according to a survey by the Center for Democracy and Technology. This data shows a troubling trend that needs to be urgently addressed.
Moreover, there is a lack of transparency about how our data is handled. Who has access to it? For how long is it stored? These questions remain unanswered, leaving students like me anxious and distrustful about digital tools that should be aiding, not intruding in our education.
We believe that there needs to be a healthy balance between ensuring student safety and respecting their privacy. Schools should instead focus on promoting digital literacy and creating awareness about safe online practices.
We call upon school administrators and relevant educational bodies to ban the use of GoGuardian in our schools immediately. Embrace alternative methods that protect students while respecting their rights. Encourage an educational environment that nurtures trust, safety, and privacy.
Help us reclaim our right to privacy. Sign this petition today and take a stand against unwarranted surveillance in our schools.
