Ban Foie Gras Production in United States

The Issue

Foie gras is a culinary dish made by fattening the liver of a duck or goose through “gavage”- which force feeds the birds until they are slaughtered for human consumption. The process involves forcing a long and thick metal tube down a bird’s throat, with an air pump that pushes an unnaturally large amount of corn mush into their esophagus. This has caused birds to explode because their liver becomes too large for their body to contain. Foie gras holds no tremendous nutritional value and causes unnecessary cruelty to birds, and approximately 15,000 ducks die due to unnatural over feeding before being sent to slaughter. There is no reason for this suffering to continue, and we need to put an end to this cruel and unnatural treatment of these birds. The states of California and New York have already illegalized the “delicacy”. This immense suffering and pain needs to end.
