The Issue

For years now, the joy of fireworks has been marred by the devastation they can cause, especially when the land is tinderbox dry and vulnerable to wildfires. Living in the UK, we have witnessed firsthand how even a single spark can escalate into uncontrollable fires that ravage our beautiful landscapes, destroy wildlife habitats, and threaten homes and lives.

Every year, countless reports surface of wildfires igniting due to the careless use of fireworks. In recent times, with the changing climate patterns, the frequency and intensity of these fires have only increased. In 2021, fires in the UK burned more land in a handful of weeks than is typically seen in an entire year. Such staggering figures highlight the urgent need for change.

Moreover, fireworks not only pose a fire risk but also cause significant distress to pets, wildlife, and individuals with PTSD and other health conditions exacerbated by loud noises. It's time we reconsider our traditions when they bring more harm than joy.

We need a complete ban on fireworks in the UK, not just for private use but also for organised displays, which, despite safety measures, still pose risks due to unforeseen accidents or changes in weather conditions.

Instead of fireworks, we could explore alternative forms of celebration, such as laser shows or LED light displays, which provide stunning visuals without the risks associated with fireworks.

This change is not only necessary for the safety of our environments and communities but also aligns with a more sustainable and conscientious way of celebrating. It's crucial that we take proactive steps to prevent further Wildfires and the irreversible damage they cause.

Please, sign this petition to urge the UK government to implement a full ban on fireworks. By doing so, we can protect our land, wildlife, and people from preventable tragedies. Let’s ignite change, not wildfires.
