Ban Duane Kentrell Erwin from the 2026 USA Grand National Dance Championship
Ban Duane Kentrell Erwin from the 2026 USA Grand National Dance Championship
The Issue
The USA Grand Nationals Dance Championship, established in 1995, is not only the largest but also the most diverse Carolina Shag and West Coast Swing Dance event globally. It is a celebration of dance that features youth workshops, social events, and competitions, offering a safe space for dancers of all ages to share their love and passion for dance.
This treasured event, held annually in Atlanta, Georgia, brings joy and unity to the dance community. However, the safety and well-being of our participants, especially our youth, is our utmost priority. It is deeply concerning that Duane Kentrell Erwin, also known as Red, may plan to attend the 2026 USA Grand National Dance Championship from May 21st to 25th, 2026. Mr. Erwin is a registered sex offender (Registration # 5327798), and his presence poses a potential threat to the safety and comfort of all attendees, particularly minors who are an integral part of this event.
The dance community thrives on trust and respect, and allowing a known sex offender to attend contradicts the values we uphold. We owe it to the families, instructors, and dancers to guarantee a protective environment where they can focus on what matters most—dancing and creating cherished memories.
Therefore, we strongly urge Michael and LeAnn Norris, organizers of the USA Grand National Dance Championship, to ban Duane Kentrell Erwin from attending the 2026 event. By doing so, we are prioritizing the safety of all participants and maintaining the integrity and spirit of the championship.
We must stand united to ensure that dance remains a haven for creativity, learning, and joy, free from fear and harm. Please sign this petition to protect our dance community and preserve the positive spirit of the USA Grand National Dance Championship.
