These fires not only destroy precious natural habitats but also endanger local wildlife and biodiversity.

Moreover, each summer, local councils spend substantial sums clearing away litter left behind by disposable barbecues. It is estimated that council clean-up operations for barbecues can cost taxpayers thousands of pounds annually, money which could be better used for community services or renewable energy initiatives.

The environmental impact doesn't stop there. Disposable barbecues are typically made of aluminum, charcoal, and plastic components, which are often not recycled properly. They contribute to the growing waste management problem, filling landfills and taking decades to decompose.

Legislative change is necessary to protect our natural landscapes and wildlife, reduce unnecessary spending, and decrease waste. By banning the sale and use of disposable barbecues, we can take a step towards a more sustainable and responsible approach to outdoor cooking. Organizations such as the National Parks Authority and Friends of the Earth have already voiced concerns and support initiatives to eliminate these environmental hazards.

We have alternatives. Portable, reusable barbecues offer an eco-friendly option that is not only sustainable but also provides a better cooking experience. Encouraging their use through subsidies or incentive programs could help facilitate this transition.
