Growing up in the peaceful and close-knit community of St. Mary's County, Maryland, has shaped my values and aspirations. Having been born and raised here, and now running for county commissioner in District 3, I have a deep understanding of the unique beauty and heritage that make our county truly special. It is with this background and passion for our community that I write to address the proposed establishment of data centers in St. Mary's County.

The introduction of data centers poses significant risks to our environment and our quality of life. Data centers are known for their heavy consumption of electricity, which often relies on non-renewable energy sources. This increased energy demand will not only strain our existing power grid but also contribute to higher emissions of greenhouse gases, directly impacting our air quality and accelerating climate change.

Furthermore, data centers require massive amounts of water for cooling purposes, potentially depleting our local water resources. Given our county's reliance on local agriculture and our respect for natural resources, this is a risk we cannot afford to take. The noise pollution from massive cooling fans and other machinery will disrupt the tranquility of our neighborhoods, altering the serene environment we cherish.

To protect our communities, we must pursue alternative avenues for economic growth that do not compromise our environmental integrity. We must prioritize sustainable development that aligns with our community values and preserves the character of St. Mary's County for future generations.

I urge my fellow residents, local businesses, and elected officials to join me in opposing the construction of data centers in our county. Together, we can advocate for clean energy initiatives and technology investments that offer long-term benefits without sacrificing our cherished landscapes and ecosystems.

Let us come together in solidarity to preserve the sanctity and charm of St. Mary's County. Please sign this petition to prevent the establishment of data centers, ensuring a healthier, sustainable future for all who call this beautiful place home.
