Ban Cruel Farm Animal Practices
The Issue
I’ve always loved animals, and seeing the conditions many farmed animals are kept in is something I believe deserves far more attention.
Cows, pigs, chickens, horses, and other farmed animals have brains and nervous systems and can experience pain, fear, stress, comfort, and positive experiences. Many are also highly social and form bonds. Being raised for food does not take away an animal’s ability to feel or its basic needs.
I understand that animals are part of our food system. This petition isn’t about telling people to stop eating meat, drinking milk, or using animal products. It’s about recognizing that raising animals for our benefit comes with a responsibility to care for them properly.
Severe overcrowding, excessive waste, lack of space or movement, untreated injuries and illness, and practices that cause avoidable pain or distress should not be accepted simply because they make production cheaper or more efficient.
There is also a responsibility that comes with producing the food people consume every day. We expect our meat, milk, eggs, and other animal products to come from a clean, safe, and responsibly managed food system. Animal health, proper sanitation, disease prevention, clean living conditions, and good farming practices are all part of that. The conditions animals live in should matter just as much as the quality we expect from the products that eventually reach our homes.
Recent concerns surrounding horses have made this issue feel even more urgent. Horses are intelligent, sensitive, majestic animals, and seeing their welfare and protections being threatened is incredibly upsetting. It is another reminder of why stronger protections are needed for animals before poor treatment is allowed to become normal.
This is not an attack on farmers who responsibly care for their animals. Farming and animal welfare can exist together. Proper veterinary care, adequate space, sanitation, responsible handling, and humane living conditions should be basic standards—not optional extras.
This petition calls for stronger nationwide protections that ban cruel farming practices and establish meaningful standards for the care and living conditions of farmed animals.
If we depend on these animals for food and other resources, we have a responsibility to make sure their lives are not defined by unnecessary suffering.
Please sign to support stronger protections and better treatment for farmed animals.
