Reparative therapy, also commonly known as conversion therapy, has an abusive history in the United States. The American Psychological Association undertook a thorough review of the existing research on the efficacy of conversion therapy, and found no proven basis for it's practice. Likewise, the American Medical Association has rejected pathologizing homosexuality and gender nonconformity. They have also concluded that evidence does not support the practice of attempting to change a person's sexual orientation. This has led to clients being sexually abused, subjected to physically harmful techniques, and has led to many suicides in the LGBTQ community. We are asking all state and local representatives to take a stand by listening to the professionals and not only condemning conversion therapy, but banning it for minors.
