Ban Canned Trophy Hunting in Texas And Beyond

The Issue

Exotic animals like zebras, antelope, water buffalo, and even giraffes are being fenced, raised, and killed for profit on Texas ranches like OX Ranch.

These operations claim to support “conservation”—but they’re nothing more than luxury playgrounds for the wealthy to trophy hunt vulnerable animals who never had a chance to escape.

Animals are imported, commodified, and sold like merchandise—and it’s legal. We call on the State of Texas (or U.S. Congress) to ban high-fence canned hunting of exotic and non-native species.

No animal should be born just to die for someone’s Instagram photo.

The Brutal Numbers Behind the Industry:

Over 1,000 canned hunting operations exist in the U.S., with Texas hosting the majority.

According to the Humane Society, more than 12,000 exotic animals are held on hunting ranches in Texas alone.
Trophy hunters pay $5,000–$50,000+ to kill lions, zebras, giraffes, and even endangered species — many of which are imported under weak regulation loopholes.
60% of trophies imported to the U.S. are from captive-bred animals, not wild ones.
Studies show over 70% of Americans oppose trophy hunting, yet canned hunts remain legal in many states.

We demand:

An end to all canned hunting of exotic species in Texas

A statewide ban on the sale of exotic animals for hunting

Investigation into the operations profiting from this cruelty
