I'm a resident of Georgia and I, along with many other citizens, feel that the wellbeing of our community and the health of our environment are under threat. We call for the prohibition of intentional injection, release, or dispersion, by any means, of chemicals, chemical compounds, substances, or apparatus, within the borders of this state into the atmosphere with the purpose of weather modification, affecting temperature, or the intensity of sunlight. This practice, intended to manage temperatures, alter weather patterns, or manipulate sunlight intensity, has unsettled implications. The risk to human health and environmental welfare from broad scale geoengineering is currently not well understood, however, according to a study by the Environmental Protection Agency, the emissions involved can significantly affect climate patterns and contribute to environmental issues like global warming (EPA, Climate Change Indicators: Weather and Climate, 2021). Furthermore, Manipulation of weather patterns can cause unexpected and potentially harmful shifts in ecosystems, negatively impacting the wildlife and natural environment that we so cherish in Georgia. Despite the law allowing certain activities, we must prioritize the health of our citizens and the protection of our environment. We urge lawmakers to act now to explicitly ban intentional chemical injection into the atmosphere within Georgia.
