Ao3 has been not only allowing, but IN FAVOR of now AI "fanfiction works," saying they want fanwork to be "inclusive." 

I've loved and been using ao3 for years, it's so many people's favorite platform, and I can't express how much I love reading my favorite ships and tropes thanks to this website.

I've always thought of ao3 as not only an archive, but fully an ART site. Literature IS art. You can't be "anti AI-art" without being against ALL ai forms of art. 

People, including myself, spend hours, days, weeks, even MONTHS coming up with and updating our works. We put so much time and effort to make our art together - ao3 involves COMMUNITY.

AI completely erases that. Instead of connecting fans to their favorite works, it drags them to 1's and 0's that were generated in a heartbeat. THIS IS NOT ART. 

It's obvious the "age of ai" cant be stopped alone with the rate of datacenters and scraping robots growing and growing. But especially with AI being allowed on our Ao3, this MOTIVATES people to think they can plagiarize other's works using AI. As a huge fan, this goes against of my beliefs and everything I WOULD have thought they stood for –

To barely get started on the issue NOT including AI on the platform, it's important to be educated on what else AI does. Not only does it waste peoples clean drinking water, it uses these to "cool down" their unreasonably massive datacenters, generating this type of content. 

Datacenters can be hosted ANYWHERE. This interrupts the life of both people and wildlife. The average AI datacenter runs 24/7, it's volume emitting 90-96 dB. This constant clamoring would make it hard for ANYONE to sleep, even to live there at all, especially the wildlife that have nowhere else to go and have much better ears than humans. Even when it passes the ear, the vibrations and pressure causes side effects ranging from extreme dizziness and nausea to insomnia and migraines. With every prompt you enter, it only gets louder. 

As much as a small petition like this would probably barely nudge a site as large as ao3 with its current pro-AI moderation, it's still important for us all to come together and support eachothers worked real time and talent – every one of us writers, readers, artists, and anyone else that loves Ao3. This is our archive of years and years of us making content on this website for eachother to read and support. AI slop is not supporting any of us. 

Their allowing of AI makes it dangerous for real authors and artists to even post work, knowing Ao3 won't do anything if AI plagiarizes it — a common argument is that "it's just inspiration like humans have." Ao3 gives us our own space and time to read and write. AI is not a talent, and nothing to ever be proud and confident enough to post at all when you realize and acknowledge everyone elses hard work on Ao3. 

AI isn't letting people be "inclusive" and letting them "make" works too, it's taking away attention from real people's art.  Even a beginner fic with messed up grammar would be better than this, because it was MADE by SOMEONE. Of a writer in our community. 

This is "Archive OF OUR OWN." Let it STAY OURS instead of allowing it to rot with AI. 

AI is not any real part of "us." Of a talented community. AI doesn't have a "we, me, our, I." AI is only growing taking away parts of our real literature. AI is not one of our own. With how things are going downhill, all it IS is just a blank archive for writers but for hosting slop too. 

Sign this petition to show how you too feel about this disappointing change. And even if ao3 doesnt change, change it's name. This no longer makes it feel like an Archive of Our Own. AI is not "OUR OWN." The works you make are your own. AI is nothing but lifeless plagiarism. It doesn't own its "works" or time or "talent" like we do. 

So, even if there's no real way to check if somethings AI or not, a place like this should AT LEAST discourage it. 

Ban AI usage from AO3.
