Ban aggressive dogs on Siksika Nation for elder safety

Ban aggressive dogs on Siksika Nation for elder safety
The Issue
On October 26, 2025, an event unfolded that no family should have to endure. Our friendly neighborhood in Siksika Nation was disrupted when a neighbor's pit bull, known for its aggression, forced its way into our home. The dog fiercely attacked my beloved support dog, Billy, and in a desperate attempt to shield him, it bit me as well. This traumatic encounter was not just a personal assault but a community incident — Elder Frank witnessed the chaos, fear etched across his face as he experienced the vulnerability of our safety.
Weeks prior, we had raised alarms to the authorities regarding the potential threat from this dog, but our pleas for intervention seemed to fall on deaf ears. This isn’t merely a matter of disagreement among neighbors; it is about the safety of our homes, the dignity of our Elders, and maintaining peace within our community. It is a call for action to prevent further tragedies.
We are urging the Siksika Nation leadership and relevant authorities to immediately act on the potential threats of aggressive dogs in our community. We are asking for the enforcement of bans on violent dogs within Siksika Nation, quarantine measures for the dangerous pets already identified, like the one that attacked us, and heightened protections to ensure such incidents do not occur against any other family in the Nation.
Elders deserve to live without fear, and families, without threat. Clear preventative measures, community awareness, and timely authority actions are essential steps towards a safer environment for all residents of Siksika Nation.
Please join us in protecting the Siksika community by signing this petition. Let’s stand together to demand that authorities hear us now and take swift and necessary actions to safeguard our homes and nurture a community where every resident, young or old, can feel secure and dignified. Sign the petition to make our home a better and safer place for everyone.
Update: We reported repeatedly—no action yet
Description:
Oct 1: Threats sent to us; we delivered a written cease-and-desist.
Oct 6: RCMP attended; no protective steps taken.
Oct 10: RCMP attended again (File 2025-1509984); scene not secured.
Oct 20–21: Public posts escalating (“get him off Siksika” / “might set some houses on fire”).
Oct 26: Pit bull entered our home—Billy mauled, Chris bitten.
Oct 26–30: We emailed Siksika Animal Services/Public Safety and followed up with RCMP, filing photos, vet bills, and screenshots, and asked for quarantine/dangerous-dog orders and interviews.
As of today: No written confirmation of enforcement.
