Ban 7-OH !
Ban 7-OH !
The Issue
This issue is near and dear to my heart because my family has experienced the devastating effects of 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) firsthand. What is 7-OH?: 7-OH (7-hydroxymitragynine) is an alkaloid derivative of the kratom plant, often processed into concentrated tablets, gummies, or shots. It binds directly to the brain's mu-opioid receptors and acts as a powerful, potentially addictive opioid-like substance. Research shows it is significantly more potent than morphine, carrying serious risks of overdose and dependence. My family member was encouraged by a store employee to try a 7-OH product, and what seemed harmless quickly turned into a serious addiction that ultimately required rehabilitation. Adrian should consider banning 7-hydroxymitragynine (7-OH) products because they have opioid-like effects, carry a high risk of dependence and withdrawal, and are often sold with little regulation or consumer awareness of their risks. These products are easily accessible despite the potential for serious harm to individuals and families. Taking action now could help protect residents and prevent others from experiencing the addiction and hardship that many families, including my own, have faced. No family should have to go through what ours has endured. I believe our community should take a closer look at the risks associated with these products and consider measures to better protect residents from their potentially harmful effects.
