As of March 1st 2021 It has been stated that Ballina shire council have made the decision to close South Ballina beach to 4wd vehicle access.

Our understanding is that there has been no community consultation with regards to this matter. This decision not only effects the people who use the beach but it also has the potential to affect business in the area from the South Ballina beach caravan park, to local shops and petrol stations that visitors and locals alike stop into before they head off for their day on the beach. We also know people who visit the Ballina area at Christmas and other school holidays and the main attraction for them is South Ballina Beach.

We understand that there have been a number of cases of careless and reckless behaviour on the beach but this is a very small percentage of the people who use the beach. This small number of people who drive like idiots should be punished. Not the people who respect and look after the beach and the wildlife.

We need to come together as a community to challenge Ballina Shire council to actually have a conversation with all of the Ballina locals who use the beach. We need to get the beach patrolled or put in a permit system to keep track of any illegal behaviour on the beach.

We are writing this as a people who respect and love the Ballina area. We are born and breed Ballina locals. Over the years we have witnessed the majority of people on the South Ballina beach enjoying themselves and abiding by the laws. We have also joined local 4wd and wildlife groups that come together and organize beach clean up days.  

Please sign this petition so we can take it to the Ballina Shire council and make them aware that locals & tourist love to use and want to keep South Ballina beach open to 4wd vehicle access. So our families and friends can enjoy the beach and all the activities that come with it like fishing, swimming, surfing, picnics etc in a quiet spot away from the crowds.
