The Issue

During graduation, Logan chose to use her platform to recognize students whose accomplishments she felt were not adequately acknowledged. While opinions may differ on how and when this message was delivered, her actions were rooted in a desire to uplift fellow students and ensure they felt seen and valued on one of the most important days of their lives. As a result of her speech, Logan’s microphone was cut off, and she has reportedly been informed that she may not receive her diploma until a later date. We believe that withholding a diploma from a student who has successfully completed all academic requirements raises serious concerns about fairness and proportionality.

This petition is not about whether every person agrees with Logan’s actions. It is about ensuring that disciplinary decisions are reasonable, transparent, and consistent with the values of education, leadership, and free expression.

Therefore, we respectfully request that:

Logan Murphy receive her diploma without unnecessary delay if all graduation requirements have been met.

The school division provide a clear explanation of any disciplinary action taken.

School leadership engage in constructive dialogue with students regarding student voice and representation at future events.

Graduation is meant to celebrate achievement, growth, and leadership. We believe this situation presents an opportunity for understanding, not division.
