Save Softimage

Save Softimage
Why this petition matters

The news was released today (3/4/2014) that Autodesk will discontinue Softimage after version 2015. Softimage is a trail blazing 3D software package that was created in 1987. Since then it has been utilized in countless commercials, video games, and widely successful films such as Jurassic Park, Titanic, Happy Feet, 300, Elysium, and the current box office hit, The Lego Movie.
In 2008 Autodesk acquired Softimage from Avid. Since then there has been speculation that Autodesk will kill off Softimage, despite their own statement that they don't intend to (Autodesk denies intent to kill off 3ds max softimage). As a group we believed they wouldn't, but our collective nightmare has come true.
All CG artists, Compositors, and anyone in production is encouraged to sign this petition, even if you don't use Softimage. Healthy competition between products will only propel the industry forward. The more artists and software we have, the further we can push the limits in already dieing VFX industry.
This petition is intended to show Autodesk and all those interested how many artists, production houses, and lives their decision will effect. We understand that this is a business first, and the odds of Autodesk reversing their decision is slim. Nevertheless, please use this list to see how valuable it is. If putting Softimage back into production isn't in your long term plans, we urge you to find a suitable buyer.
