The issue

Recently new laws were rushed through the Senate without proper consultation with the community or debate, highlighting the deep-rooted issue of lack of transparency and accountability in Australian politics. It is deeply concerning that our elected officials can pass significant legislation without being held accountable for their actions or words.

For Australians to trust their politicians, that trust must be earned. Honesty and integrity have been missing from our political landscape for too long. It is unacceptable that politicians can lie or mislead the public without consequence, eroding the foundation of trust necessary for our democracy to thrive.

Political honesty is crucial not only for the strengthening of our democratic institutions but also for fostering unity and understanding among citizens. We cannot hope to address national and societal challenges unless our leaders are held to the highest standards of truthfulness and transparency.

At this time it is currently legal for politicians to lie to the Australian public even during Election campaigns.   It is compulsory for Australians to vote in elections.   How are we to make an informed decision when lodging our vote at the ballot box without the certainty of what our politicians advocate?  I wish to see the end of Preferential Voting as I believe the Australian people want who they vote for to win, not see a party with less primary votes win due to dealmaking with other parties.  This makes the voting process more complicated especially for new Australians who are learning our language and find our Electoral process confusing.  It is unfair to all of us.

This petition seeks to make it illegal for politicians in Australia to intentionally lie or deceive the public at any time. Such an initiative is vital for restoring faith in our political system, ensuring that leaders act with honesty, and providing the public with the transparency they deserve.

Let us work towards a future where Australian politics is characterized by openness and accountability, where our leaders earn the trust of the people by speaking the truth. Sign this petition to demand a change, to advocate for legislation that holds politicians accountable for their words and actions. Your signature is a step towards a transparent and trustworthy governance system whilst promoting safety and positivity in Australia.
