Every year in Australia, tens of thousands of cotton buds are flushed down toilets, make their way through waste management facilities, and enter our oceans.

The plastic stems do not biodegrade. They pollute our oceans, harm marine life, and wash up on our beaches. More cotton buds are collected off Victorian beaches than straws, plastic cutlery and lollipop sticks combined.

Sustainable alternatives exist and are already stocked by many retailers. We are calling on all cotton bud retailers to protect our environment and marine life, and stop selling plastic-stemmed options.

Our marine life is unique and deserves protection. Our beaches are some of the best in the world yet many are littered with plastic.

The solution is simple. We want plastic-stemmed cotton buds off our shelves, and off our beaches!
